Mr. Dave Thomen - D's Magic
Wednesday's 6 to 8 PM at Greenmount Station or for your next event. 10,000 career performances for D!
Our 35th edition of our Tuesday show included time travel back to Houdini's hometown of Appleton for the centenary mass escape. 🔒🗝
More public performances announced next month! New for this fall! D's Magic is bringing the story of Harry Houdini to audiences through his educational show, Houdini Escape into Reading, combining magic, storytelling and a Houdini escape.
The presentation explores a lesser-known part of Houdini's life: his passion for reading and learning. Sources including Houdini's Library, available in children's and adult editions, document Houdini's collection of more than 15,000 books.
Houdini famously said, “My brain is the key that sets me free.” Thomen utilizes that statement to connect Houdini's legendary escapes with the knowledge and preparation that helped shape his career.
The presentation includes a Houdini escape while introducing audiences to the legendary performer through stories about his life, his books and his lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
Thomen recently participated in a historic Houdini tribute in Appleton, Wisconsin, joining more than 200 magicians in a simultaneous performance of Houdini's Siberian Chain Escape. The 2026 event marked the 100th anniversary of Houdini's death.
Houdini Escape into Reading offers audiences an opportunity to discover the man behind the escapes and the important role reading played in Harry Houdini's life.

Dave Thomen was among more than 200 performers who gathered in Appleton, Wisconsin, on July 2, 2026, for a unique tribute to legendary escape artist Harry Houdini. The event featured a mass performance of Houdini’s famous Siberian Chain Escape, with hundreds of magicians attempting the routine at the same time. In an impressive display, every participant successfully freed themselves in less than a minute. Organizers believe the gathering may have set a record for the largest number of magicians ever to perform the escape simultaneously. Thomen was recognized for his participation with an official Certificate of Participation from the Society of American Magicians (SAM).
The event held particular significance this year as 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of Houdini’s death. Appleton was chosen as the site because of Houdini’s longtime connection to the Wisconsin city, where he spent part of his youth and considered home.
The day was officially proclaimed “Houdini Day” by Appleton Mayor Jacob A. Woodford and included several other spectacular demonstrations. Among them were a milk can escape and a straitjacket escape performed four stories above the city plaza. Official City of Appleton
